ITAR-TASS Photo Agency is Russia 's oldest agency specializing in photo news. Known as Photochronica TASS for decades, the agency was and remains to be the leader in photo coverage of political, social and cultural life in this country. The origin of Photochronica TASS dates back to 1926, when, under the Russian Telegraph Agency, then named ROST, there was set up a cliche shop, a small unit providing national central press with photographs. Gradually the small shop grew into a world photo agency.
